Wang Yi Meets with Pakistani Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir

On May 25, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistani Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, in Beijing.

Wang Yi welcomed Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s joint visit to China with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan. As the old Chinese saying goes, “Sturdy grass withstands high winds; pure gold stands the test of fire.” No matter how the international and regional landscape evolves, the China-Pakistan friendship remains rock-solid and unbreakable. The two countries have maintained a high level of mutual political trust, practical cooperation, and international coordination, setting an example for state-to-state relations. The Pakistani military has always been an important force in promoting China-Pakistan cooperation, and the Chinese side is confident that it will continue to make new contributions to deepening the traditional bilateral friendship and advancing the building of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

Syed Asim Munir stated that the ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China has stood the test of time and has grown even stronger, a fact of which Pakistan is deeply proud. In recent years, China’s international status and influence have been rising steadily. The four major Global Initiatives and the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping have played a pivotal role in promoting world peace and development, earning broad welcome from the international community. Pakistan firmly supports and actively participates in these endeavors. The Pakistani military will continue to fully support the building of a Pakistan-China community with a shared future and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Syed Asim Munir briefed Wang on the latest developments in mediating the U.S.-Iran conflict, stating that an agreement is close to being reached. Pakistan is willing to continue making every effort and hopes that China will continue to play its role in the process. Wang Yi stated that Pakistan is a qualified mediator trusted by all parties, and China appreciates and supports the efforts made by Pakistan. Despite the difficulties, peace will eventually arrive.
